The Government of Odisha is dedicated to advancing quality and inclusive higher education opportunities throughout the state. In line with this commitment, various scholarship programs, financial aid initiatives, and interest subsidy schemes have been implemented. However, it has become evident that targeted intervention is necessary to provide inclusive financial assistance to students who have been left out.

The objective behind extending the financial aid for higher education in the form of scholarships to all categories of colleges is to propel Odisha towards the forefront of higher education by ensuring universal coverage.

NUA O Scholarship Form – Eligibility Criteria

  • Residency Requirement: Applicants must be permanent residents of  Odisha.
  • Educational Requirement: Students must have enrolled and regularly attending classes in any regular UG or PG course in the State
  • Universities, Government, non-government aided colleges, aided.
  • Sanskrit colleges and unaided private colleges taking admissions through SAMS under the Higher Education Department’s jurisdiction.
  • Admission through SAMS Portal: To be eligible for the scholarship, admission in eligible courses is to be undertaken through SAMS only. However, since admissions are already over for the current academic year, as an exception, this condition will be relaxed for the current financial year i.e. for 2023-24 in case of all colleges except unaided private colleges taking admissions through SAMS.

Ineligible Courses and Criteria

  1. Students enrolled in open universities pursuing higher education through distance learning or correspondence courses, or undertaking self-financed courses under PPP mode, are ineligible to avail of scholarships under this scheme.
  2. Students currently receiving scholarships KALIA scheme for professional and technical courses will not be entitled.
  3. Students failing to obtain validation from their respective Principal or Educational institutions are ineligible.
  4. Any other categories specified by the Government from time to time will also be ineligible.

Auto-Exclusion Criteria

  1. Students falling under the following categories will be automatically excluded from the scholarship scheme.
  2. Students whose either of the parents is paying tax or liable to pay income tax.
  3. Students whose either of the parents is employed under regular establishments of the Central/State Government/ PSUs /Government Aided Institutions/ Autonomous Bodies or receiving grants as part of their direct pay or through block grants from any aided educational institution.

Period of Scholarship

The scholarship is applicable for a maximum duration of three years for UG courses and two years for PG courses. One student can avail of this scholarship only once for UG and once for PG.

Duration and Scope of Scholarship

Eligible recipients in the first year of admission will receive the scholarship for the complete duration of their courses. For subsequent years, students will be eligible for the remaining years of the course. For example, if a +3 Arts student was admitted in the academic year 2022-23, they will be entitled to the scholarship for the 2nd and 3rd years only. Claims for arrears or backlogs from previous years will not be entertained.

  1. Students first need to visit the official website of the NUA-O Portal.
  2. The homepage will appear on your screen, here you need to click on the Apply Now button.
  3. After that the Application page will open on your screen, here fill in the following details.

  1. After filling in all these details, you need to click on the Submit button to complete the process.

Selection Process

  1. After receiving applications on the state scholarship portal, college authorities will evaluate them based on eligibility criteria.
  2. The screening committee will verify the authenticity of the information in the declaration. Eligible applications will be forwarded to the Higher Education Department through the State Scholarship Portal.
  3. Trust in the authenticity of students’ self-declarations is important. Students are relied upon to ensure the accuracy of their submissions. However, in instances of doubt, college authorities reserve the right to verify self-declarations. It is crucial to note that any submission of false information by any student will result in appropriate legal action, including the possibility of the student being required to refund the scholarship amount along with facing legal action.
  4. The department will conduct due diligence randomly, if required, to evaluate applications and sanction scholarships to eligible students.
