These official documents are authorized by the Government and play a vital role in accessing benefits under the Public Distribution System (PDS). Before the implementation of NFSA’2013 in Assam, there were three types of ration cards known as Family Identity Cards (FIC) in the state. Each type served a specific purpose:
First, we had the APL (Above Poverty Line) ration cards. These were issued to families who were classified as being above the poverty line. They could avail of certain benefits through the PDS.Next, we had the BPL (Below Poverty Line) ration cards. These were meant for families who fell below the poverty line. These cards enabled them to access essential commodities at subsidized rates through the PDS.
Lastly, there were the AAY (Antodaya Anna Yojana) ration cards. These were specifically for beneficiaries under the PDS/TPDS who were considered the most vulnerable. The AAY cards provided additional support and ensured that these individuals received their necessary food supplies.On top of these three types, there was another kind of ration card issued by the State Government called the MMASY (Mukhya Mantrir Anna Suraksha Yojana) Card.
This card was designed to provide additional food security to specific groups identified by the government.By having these different types of ration cards, the government aimed to ensure that everyone, regardless of their economic status, had access to essential food supplies through the PDS.
Eligibility Criteria for Ration Card in Assam
- Apply for a new ration card under NFSA’13! It’s pretty straightforward. The eldest woman in a family, who is a bonafide citizen of our country and has an annual family income of less than Rs.1,00,000/- (Rupees One lakh), is eligible to apply for a new ration card.
- But here’s the exciting part: even if someone doesn’t currently have a ration card, they can still apply for one! That’s right, anyone who doesn’t have a ration card can submit an application.
- Now, let’s focus on who can actually apply for the ration card. It’s the women of the family who can take the lead in applying for the card. They play a crucial role in this process.
- Lastly, it’s important to note that the applicant must be a resident of Assam state. So, if you’re living in Assam, you’re eligible to apply for a new ration card under NFSA’13.
Documents Required:
- To apply for a new ration card, you’ll need to provide some detailed particulars about your family members. This includes information like their names, ages, and other relevant details.
- If you have any minor family members who are below 10 years of age, you’ll need to submit copies of their birth certificates as well. This helps ensure that everyone in the family is accounted for.
- In you’ll need to include a certified copy of the relevant page from the Voter List. This serves as a proof of your eligibility and helps establish your identity.
- To further support your application, you’ll also need to provide a copy of your Tax Pay or Land Revenue Pay receipt. This shows that you have fulfilled your financial obligations and adds validity to your application.
- If you had a previous ration card or a Family Identity holding, you’ll need to provide a surrender certificate for it. Alternatively, if you don’t have a ration card or any relevant documents from your previous residence, you can obtain a non-availability certificate from the FCS&CA authority.
- Lastly, you’ll need to submit an address proof. This can be an attested copy of your PAN Card, Driving License, Bank Passbook, Post Office Passbook, Municipal Holding receipt, Electricity Bill, or Telephone Bill. This helps establish your current residence and ensures that you are a resident of the specified area.
