The Indian Nursing Council, which operates under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India, is an autonomous body established by the Indian Nursing Council Act of 1947. This act, enacted by Parliament, grants the Council statutory powers to ensure consistent standards and regulations for nursing education across the country. One of the diploma programs offered in the field of nursing is ANM (Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery), which spans over two years. To be eligible for this program, interested candidates must have successfully completed their class 12 examination in either the Science or Arts stream.

Another diploma course in nursing is GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery), which has a duration of three-and-a-half years. To be eligible for GNM, candidates must have passed their 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as their subjects. The age limit for both ANM and GNM courses is between 17 and 30 years. It’s worth mentioning that these courses are open to both male and female students. The ANM program, focusing on Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery, lasts for a period of 18 months. During this program, students gain comprehensive knowledge and skills in nursing and midwifery practices.
